White Fillings
Tooth-colored fillings (“white fillings”) are a safe and attractive alternative to metal amalgam fillings. Also known as “composite restorations,” they are a desirable choice since they are made to match the color of your teeth—and seamlessly blend with the entire tooth structure.
White fillings are made of a light resin material applied as a soft putty that hardens in the mouth under a special light. Our dental centre uses the most highly advanced white filling material containing nanoparticles. The technology in tooth-colored fillings means that when placed and bonded correctly—the fillings last a very long time.
The techniques involved in placing white fillings call for a high level of clinical and technical expertise. Our doctors use these techniques to improve the health and appearance of patients every day.
Benefits of tooth-colored fillings:
- Unlike metal fillings, tooth-colored filings blend with natural teeth, while actually adding strength to the tooth structure.
- They also add to the radiance of a smile, along with other benefits:
- Retain their strength and integrity over time.
- Reduce tooth sensitivity.
- Help to prevent new decay by sealing the area between tooth and filling.
- Keep your teeth looking natural and beautiful.

When a larger filling is required a porcelain inlay or porcelain onlay is a better option.
Porcelain Inlays / Porcelain Onlays
Porcelain inlays or porcelain onlays are fillings made of porcelain that fit into or onto the tooth. They are indicated when there is too little tooth structure to predictably support a white filling but there is enough tooth to avoid placing a crown, which is more destructive to the tooth.
Porcelain inlays / porcelain onlays take 2 visits to complete. The first session is when the decay or old filling is painlessly removed, a detailed impression is taken and a type of white filling is placed as a temporary. Our master ceramist then creates the custom made porcelain inlay or porcelain onlay in the lab. The second session is 1-2 weeks later when we bond the porcelain inlay or porcelain onlay, which fits exactly, to the tooth.
The big advantage of porcelain inlays / porcelain onlays is that they are much more durable than white fillings, lasting up 30 years. Fillings often reduce the strength of a tooth but porcelain inlays / porcelain onlays can actually increase a tooth’s strength.
